Staying near the beach at Portigliolo: the sand ten minutes away, the pool when you get back

Portigliolo beach is about 10 minutes' drive from Casa Mare e Macchia. More than three kilometres of sand, a site protected by the Conservatoire du littoral and the mouth of the Rizzanese: you spend the morning there, and come back for lunch by the pool.

Allow about ten minutes' drive from the house, longer in July and August. The tourist office lists the beach under Propriano.

Walking and swimming along more than three kilometres
The Conservatoire du littoral speaks of a strip more than 3 km long, the tourist office of almost 4 km of fine sand. Near the water sports club, the tourist office describes crystal-clear water, a gentle slope and shallow depths. A water sports club and a restaurant are set up on the beach.
In bad weather, the sea can quickly become dangerous, with strong waves: the tourist office points this out.
A protected site
The Conservatoire du littoral protects 29.32 hectares of the site, in the commune of Propriano. The site is also in a Natura 2000 area. It is home to the crisped bugloss, a small beach flower that has become extremely rare and is critically endangered.
The mouth of the Rizzanese
At the mouth of the Rizzanese, the southern part of the beach keeps a wilder, more unspoilt face, according to the tourist office. Further upstream, the same river flows under the Spin'a Cavallu bridge, a so-called Genoese bridge from the medieval period, listed as a historic monument in 1976. The bridge is about ten minutes from the house: you can combine it with Sartène, a quarter of an hour away.

Planning your day from the house
Portigliolo lends itself to days split in two. The morning at the beach, lunch at the house, the afternoon elsewhere. In a suite, the Pool Lounge serves a light menu from noon to 6pm by the pool. In the villa, you have your own kitchen, and you can ask for the picnic basket to stay on the sand.
For the sunset, change beaches: Baracci, the nearest to the house, faces west.
In the evening, the long table at L'Atelier des Sens is served at 8pm, by reservation, on the ground floor of the house.
Suite or villa?
As a couple, Luna is level with the infinity pool, with its private sun loungers: back from the beach, the heated water is waiting for you. Nina, on the top floor, has its large private terrace. Beach towels are provided in both.
