Cala Longa, its granite rocks and clear water, south of the Senetosa headland

Staying near Tizzano and Senetosa: the roadless coast of the Sartenais

The hamlet of Tizzano is about half an hour's drive from Casa Mare e Macchia. Its beach is equipped for everyone, and this is where the coastal path to the Senetosa lighthouse begins: a four-hour walk, along a coast that no road reaches.

The drive

Half an hour from the house

Allow about 30 minutes' drive to Tizzano, longer in July and August. For the beach, Visit Corsica gives access by car via the RT 40 then the D48, with a car park.

Tizzano beach

A fine-sand beach, with a restaurant. It holds the Una Piaghja per Tutti label, with an access mat and a bathing wheelchair for people with reduced mobility.

The path to the Senetosa lighthouse

The site manager gives four hours from Tizzano to the lighthouse. The path first follows a 3 km track from the hamlet, then runs along the coves: Barcaghju, Murta Spana, cala di Tromba, Cala Longa, the beach of Cala de Tivella, and finally the lighthouse. The same path can be walked from the north, from Campomoro, in about five hours.

The lighthouse and its refuge

The Senetosa lighthouse dates from 1892. It has two towers: one carries the light, the other the red sector that warns of the rocks. It is the first coastal refuge in Corsica, open from April to October, by reservation.

Cala Longa, in the Sartenais

South of the Senetosa headland, Cala Longa is reached on foot or by boat. There is another Cala Longa at Bonifacio: this one is in the Sartenais. You will find it and its neighbours in our article on the coves with no road.

Planning your day from the house

On foot.

Four hours one way: the walk to the lighthouse takes the whole day. Bring walking shoes, enough water and sun protection: the manager also warns of strong winds. Fires and bivouacking are prohibited. Villa guests can ask for a picnic basket “for a day in a cove or on the trails”.

By sea.

The site is untouched by any road, and the usual way to its coves is still by boat. Boats leave from Propriano harbour, just below the house. Want to rent a boat, go out with a skipper or head off for the day? Let us know the day before. With a suite, the concierge service is included.

At the beach.

A day at Tizzano without the walk: the beach, the restaurant, and back in the late afternoon.

Back at the house, the pool is waiting, heated all year, and in the evening, the chef's table is served at 8pm, by reservation. To the south, the Sartenais coast continues past Tradicettu to Roccapina.

Suite or villa?

As a couple, a suite is all you need. After four hours on the trail, Luna lets you slip into the pool in a few steps, from its private sun loungers. Nina keeps its large terrace ready for drinks.

For four, the whole villa gives you the equipped kitchen to get the day ready and the pool to yourselves when you get back. The house welcomes children from the age of 12.
