Two suites, a pool facing the gulf and a chef's table on the ground floor: at Casa Mare e Macchia, a stay for two revolves around the house, with the sea and the mountains within easy driving distance. Here is a typical day, from coffee at the water's edge to dinner at 8pm, with the price of each option.
Morning: breakfast in the garden, then the pool
The day starts with breakfast. You put it together from a menu: you choose what you feel like, we prepare the buffet. It is served from 8am to 10.30am, in the garden facing the mountains or in the large open kitchen. Come down whenever suits you. There is a gluten-free option, just ask for it. Breakfast is optional, at €25 per person.

Then, the pool. It's a heated saltwater infinity pool, facing the Gulf of Valinco, and it stays open all year. Sun loungers and towels are provided. If you're staying in Luna, yours are private, a few barefoot steps away.
The day: a cove by sea, or Bavella in the afternoon

In the south of the gulf, between Campomoro and Senetosa, the coast has neither road nor house. The coves are reached by sea, leaving from Propriano harbour, three minutes from the house. Boat hire, a trip out with a skipper, a whole day: tell us the day before what would make you happy, and we take care of the rest. If you're staying in a suite, the concierge service is included. We tell you about the coves in the south of the gulf in a separate article.
The other option is the mountains. The Bavella pass tops out at 1,218 metres, at the foot of its granite needles, about 55 minutes' drive away. The road climbs up through Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano and Levie, across the villages of the Alta Rocca. The house takes its name from this contrast: between sea and maquis, you can swim in the morning and walk in the mountains in the afternoon. It's all set out in our article on the Bavella pass, and our guide to the area has more ideas, with the driving time from the house.
Prefer to stay put? When you get back, or all day long, the Pool Lounge awaits you by the pool, every day from 10.30am to 8pm. It is reserved for suite guests, and service is on request. Coffees, teas, juices and artisanal Corsican lemonades all day long. From noon to 6pm, a light menu: salads, burrata, focaccias, the chef's suggestions. From 3pm, cocktails, classic or created in-house, and alcohol-free drinks. The menu and its prices are available on site.
Evening: an aperitif facing the gulf
From 6pm to 8pm, the Pool Lounge turns to aperitif time: boards of Corsican charcuterie and cheeses, sharing plates, focaccias and the chef's small creations.
If you have chosen Nina, you can also have your aperitif in your own suite. It takes up the top floor, and its large private terrace, with its outdoor lounge, looks out to the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. As the light comes down onto the sea, the gulf changes colour. It's our favourite moment in the house.
Want to watch the sun touch the water from the beach? Baracci, the nearest to the house, faces west. In town, Puraja is known for its sunsets.
Dinner at the chef's table
On the ground floor of the house, L'Atelier des Sens lays a single long table, facing the kitchen. Chef Alessandro Palmieri composes every plate in front of his guests, with cooking that sits between Corsica and Italy. Dinner is at 8pm, by reservation.
This autumn, the table is open on three evenings:
- Mondays and Tuesdays, the five-course discovery menu, €55 per person;
- Saturdays, the seven-course Atelier des Sens menu, €95 per person;
- wine pairings are available as an option.
One thing to know for a stay for two: the table seats from 2 to 12, and you share it with the evening's other guests, each with their own moment. If you want the table to yourselves, private hire is possible depending on the occasion, with a price given on request. After dessert, your suite is upstairs: no car to get back into.

A massage for two, on site
A day on a boat or on foot ends well on a massage table. The house arranges tailored massages, on site: relaxing, deep or firmer. For two, the duo massage costs €100 per person for one hour. Solo, allow €80 for one hour or €160 for two hours. Details of the treatments are on corsicamassage.com. You can add it to your extras when you book your stay.
Luna or Nina?
Both suites measure 30 m², with a queen bed, a walk-in shower, a dressing room and air conditioning. What sets them apart is where you'll spend your free hours.
Luna lives level with the infinity pool, with its private sun loungers. You open the picture window and the water is a few steps away. It's the suite for slow mornings. It also has the latest check-out in the house, before 11am.
Nina is right at the top, with its large private terrace and outdoor lounge. It's the suite for the view from above and evenings outdoors. The pool is still yours to use.
The quality of the facilities, the view, the quiet, how private it feels, and the kindness of the hosts. Not to mention the breakfast.Mathieu · Booking
